Just The Number Of Deaths Exist within the 'Conan the Barbarian' Remake?
To become fair, the sheer amount of on-screen deaths within this movie could have been more surprising when the title have been 'Conan the Aristocrat.' However when the primary character passes the surname "Barbarian," it is a safe wager that there can be a kerfuffle or two -- or, well, a great deal more. Last evening, throughout a professional screening of Conan the Barbarian -- starring Jason Momoa, overtaking the role from an actress named Arnold Schwarzenegger -- we attempted good to maintain a running count of every single on-screen dying. A disclaimer: This really is in no way a study. Several moments feature a lot synchronised carnage that it'll most likely be necessary eventually to recruit a team of specialists to look at each frame and supply the official body count. Until that glorious day comes, however, this unofficial tally will need to do. Another caveat: these deaths really occur on-screen individuals implied by an aerial shot of publish-fight carnage aren't incorporated. Dying by sacrifice: 1 Dying by womb stabbing: 1 Dying by molten metal towards the face: 1 Dying by Wolverine-style hands claw: 2 Dying by residing in a village that's been pillaged: 36 Dying by forest sneak attack gone terribly wrong: 4 Dying by mind smashed on ground: 1 Dying by human catapult: 1 Dying by attempted ship hijacking gone terribly wrong: 11 Dying by serpent: 4 Dying by sword in fight: 32 Dying by arrow in fight: 11 Dying when you are converted into grime: 5 Dying by impalement: 1 Dying by lava river: 1 Dying by gutting: 1 Dying by beheading: 1 Grand Total of Deaths: 113 Period of 'Conan the Barbarian' within a few minutes: 112 Average D.P.M. Early Edition: Justin Lin Exits 'Highlander,' Penguins Get a Helmer, Scott Glenn Gets More Work
Justin Lin is so hot right now, coming off the success of 'Fast Five,' that he's turning down projects. Case in point: The director -- who's lining up another edition of the fast car franchise and possibly a new Terminator movie -- had to take his name off the Summit Entertainment remake of 1986's 'Highlander.' The reason: Summit is anxious to get the ball rolling on a new franchise now that 'Twilight' is fading out, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin's timetable didn't sync up with Summit's desire to move sooner rather than later on the film, which already has a script ready to go. So Summit is out there looking for a new director. Any thoughts? Those pesky 'Madagascar' penguins are back -- with a movie all their own. Back in March, DreamWorks announced that they were going to develop a spin-off for the quartet, hiring Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, the scribes behind 'Megamind,' to write the script focusing on the paramilitary parables of plucky penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now the studio has announced that Simon Smith, who co-directed DreamWorks' 'Bee Movie,' has been tapped to direct the untitled film. The penguins already have made it to TV, where 'The Penguins of Madagascar' CGI series finished 2010 as the second most-watched animated show on Nickelodeon behind 'SpongeBob SquarePants' among ages 2-11. 'Madagascar 3' is scheduled for a June 8, 2012 release. Scott Glenn is one of those evergreen actors who never wants for work, spreading his screen time between mainstream and indie films and TV. Lately he's graced such big-screen projects as 'The Bourne Ultimatum,' 'W,' 'Secretariat' and 'Sucker Punch,' and now he's joined the cast of Lee Daniels' high-profile drama 'The Paperboy,' starring Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman, as well as returning as CIA director Ezra Kramer in Universal's 'The Bourne Legacy.' In 'The Paperboy,' a reporter (McConaughey) returns to his Florida hometown to investigate a case involving a death row inmate; Glenn will play W.W. James, who runs the local newspaper. Glenn is the latest returning 'Bourne' cast member: Joan Allen and Albert Finney are set to return for the fourth installment in the series, which stars Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac and Stacy Keach. Keith Olbermann Mocks Newsweek's '150% Insane' Bachmann Wanted Cover (Video)
On his Current Tv series Monday, Keith Olbermann seemed off on Bachmann Wanted's questionable Newsweek cover. "May be the try looking in her eyes showing she is stuffed with the holy spirit? Newsweek thinks it's full of another thing. They call her the full of rage," Olbermann stated (discover the shocking truth, via Huffington Publish, above. "[Then one else] like, 'Sharks with frickin' lasers mounted on their heads!" Olbermann then questioned Ryan Lizza, who authored a brand new Yorker profile from the Republican Tea Party presidential candidate. He requested the way the New Yorker and Newsweek, who put her about the cover searching "150 percent insane," got such wide use of the politician. Lizza states he just responded a press email and jumped on her behalf plane. He was the only real journalist besides somebody from Pajama Media along with a French correspondent in the AFP to follow along with her past Iowa, he states. "Every politician thinks standing on the coverage of Newsweek or Time continues to be a positive thing to complete. She most likely folded the dice and thought, 'Sarah Palin was about the cover lately and she or he looked great'... It didn't come out this way,Inch Lizza states. "You don't look excessively damaged," states Olbermann of Lizza investing a lot time together with her. While Olbermann lauds the brand new Yorker story, he states, "Newsweek will get the photography Pulitzer, I'm afraid. It's the worst magazine cover since Martin Sheen within the Dead Zone." Bachman told a crowd in Iowa that they hadn't seen the coverage, so couldn't create a comment. Newsweek and also the Daily Animal editor Tina Brown defended the coverage, writing on Twitter, "Michele Bachmann's intensity is galvanizing voters in Iowa at this time and Newsweek's cover captures that." 'The Change-Up': 'Rise Of The Apes' And Other Non-Human Movie Characters Can Body-Swap, Too!
by Uptin Saiidi Can you imagine waking up to find youve switched bodies with someone? Of course you can -- weve seen it happen in "Freaky Friday," "Like Father Like Son," and now "The Change-Up." Even the films star Jason Bateman joked on Jon Stewart this week by saying, it is a tired, some would say pleasantly familiar premise. Isnt that everyones dream to take a walk in someone elses shoes only to realize you totally misjudged their life and have a new appreciation for your own?Lets hope Hollywood continues riding the Point-Of-View wave, but why limit them to human swaps? Cant we learn even more from swapping with another being rather than our own kind? Yesterday, MTV Movies Blog editor Josh Wigler came up with five fictional characters hed like to most switch places with. [Editor's Note: Sorry about that. -JW] And now here are five movies that could have main characters switch lives with a non-human! "Toy Story 3" // Woody + Andy Poor, Woody. Hes traveled the world while Andy legit still thinks hes barely left his front yard. If the two could switch places, maybe Woody would finally understand that real adult life leaves us little time to play with our childhood toys and while Andy is trapped in a toy cowboys body hed be able to see how obsessed with him those guys are. Maybe Andy would enjoy his new life with Rex, Buzz, Jessi and Barbie, although one things for sure about Andys dog, Slinkyno longer would he be a mans best friend. "Transformers: Dark of The Moon" // Sam Witwicky + Bumblebee Im pretty sure the only sensible thing for the next installment of the Transformers is for Sam Witwicky and Bumblebee to switch bodies. We know theyve had their differences at times but a swap could allow Bumblebee to fully understand all the daily pressures Sam has to face. Oh, and itd be so much easier during fights if Sam was an autobot. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" // Errol (Rons owl) + Ron Weasley Rewind to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone." What if an unlucky turn of Rons bedroom doorknob caused him and Errol to switch bodies right before Ronald left for his first day at Hogwarts? Hed attack his brothers and parents hoping theyd believe him, while Errol adjusted to using human legs and went off to school. Would Errol living in Rons body still mean that hed befriend Harry and Hermione or would their path be forever changed? "Twilight" // Jacob, The Werewolf + Edward, The Vampire Theres been a fair amount of fights in the "Twilight" saga and its all because of one thing: understanding. Or lack of it, we should say. How about a werewolf sees what its like to be a vampire for a change? In this swap, Jacob would turn into a werewolf but be stuck as Edward turning into a vampire while Edward would be stuck as a werewolf thinking he was turning into a vampire as Jacob had to learn to suck blood and enjoy doing it. Thats really confusing, but totally worth seeing. "Rise of the Planet of Apes" // Will Rodman + An Ape The apes are coming! But maybe they dont have to. Instead of the apes attacking and trying to takeover humankind, what if the plot took a slight turn and the films main character Will Rodman, switched bodies with the head ape-in-charge. Will would just tell all the apes to chill and make them see how beautiful the human race really is. And as for the ape living in Wills body, well, thatd just be comedic relief. Tell us what you think in the comments section and on Twitter!

Jeff Bewkes Discusses 'Green Lantern's' Underperformance
NEW YORK - Time Warner chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes was clear when asked on a conference call Wednesday how he felt about the box office performance of Green Lantern, the June release from the conglomerate's film studio that disappointed. "It did not live up to expectations - fell fairly far short of those," Bewkes said. Still, he didn't rule out a sequel at this point, saying that he was not in a position to tell at this time if there will be one. "We will be deciding that in due course," he said. Sources had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. was not giving up on a sequel. Among factors that led to a lower second-quarter film profit, TW earlier on Wednesday had cited "higher theatrical film valuation adjustments" due predominantly to Green Lantern's underperformance. Later in the day, TW in a regulatory filing provided some more detail on the adjustments, saying they amounted to "$50million as a result of revisions to estimates of ultimate revenue for certain theatrical films." Bewkes, however, calmed Wall Street concerns about TW's plans to use superhero films from its DC arm to fill the void that will be left after the final film in the Harry Potter franchise. "I'm not concerned about DC's strategy," Bewkes emphasizing, predicting that it will be "a major contributor" of hits and franchises in the future. He pointed to a planned Superman film and next year's latest Batman release as upcoming projects. On Wednesday's call, Bewkes was also confronted with Wall Street concerns that TW hasn't done big library content deals yet with digital distributors. Some deals by competitors "undervalued [content] or reduced the lifetime value streams," he suggested. Bewkes pointed out that TW has already sold select content to Netflix and has "ongoing discussions" with all digital players, such as Apple, Amazon.com and Netflix about possible deals for TV series and movies. He didn't want to provide a time frame for a deal though, describing his company's approach as "vigorous" and "eager to maximize value" and add to the lifetime value of content. Evercore Partners analyst Alan Gould said before the earnings call that "one would anticipate TW would be teeing off a similar deal shortly" after Netflix and Amazon deals by the likes of CBS and NBCUniversal. Bewkes shared that he wouldn't emphasize price as the biggest and only problem, signaling that windowing decisions are also a key focus. Deep library shows are best for the likes of Netflix, including for serialized shows that don't play too well in cable syndication, Bewkes said. But in most cases, digital video distributors are not the right outlet for newer, higher-value programming. Asked what content tends to be hurt by expanding online video options, Bewkes reiterated his stance that hit shows are not affected, but "mediocre stuff loses." In that context, Bewkes on Wednesday also promised that new TV syndication deals struck by TW's Turner networks for such shows as The Big Bang Theory for TBS and The Mentalist for TNT will refresh his cable channel unit's program mix. "We don't really see fatigue" of hit shows going into syndication due to online availability of TV shows, he said, but argued that older shows had affected ratings momentum.
